Pulse: Describe Davido in a few words…
Davido: I’m laid back, energetic and fun to be with.
Pulse: How did your childhood shape up your decision to do music?
Davido: When I was young, we used to throw a lot
of parties at home. My mother liked to dance and party. She used to
bring a lot of people together and make them happy, and this made me
love music.
Pulse: Whom do you personally credit with having influenced your musical journey?
Davido: God Almighty.
P: Your hit songs, among them Gobe, Dami Duro and
Overseas, have been topping the Nigerian charts tipping other hits from
other popular artistes. Is there a secret?
D: Talent and hardwork… With God, all things are possible.
P: You are involved in a number of school projects. How goes the progress?
D: God has blessed me in a short time as a musician and I feel it’s only right to give back to the society.
P: Are you involved in any other community projects?
D: Just the school projects for now; trust me, it’s a lot.
P: We hear you love rides, rides and more rides …
D: Yes, I am an avid lover of rides. I used to have five cars and I recently added another one.
P: What other assets can you safely say you own?
D: My house in Lekki and few properties in the area.
P: Do you attribute all this wealth to your musical success or do you have other sources of income?
D: Yes. I attribute it to my musical success but
I also have had the opportunity of having the best father in the world.
He helps me to invest.
P: Your father is a multi-millionaire and if word is to go by, you are not interested in his wealth. Is this true?
D: He is the best father in the world like I said earlier and (laughing) I’m very interested in his wealth!
P: It seems everywhere you go, the ‘Davido-Wizkid’ beef always follows. What’s your response to this issue?
D: There is nothing like Davido-Wizkid beef. We are good friends. Wiz is like a brother to me and I love his work.
P: Tell us about your contract with telecommunication giant MTN and its recent renewal.
D: We have renewed it (the contract) for another
year and it’s all about Davido being the face of MTN PULSE; a product
that the youth can benefit so much from this.
P: You are reported to be earning over N15M (Sh8 million) from that contract. Is that true?
D: I’m sorry; I cannot disclose that but it is nothing compared to N15M.
P: Are you in a relationship?
D: I am not in any relationship. I am just 20 years old. For now, I am thinking music.
P: What next for Davido?
D: I have been on tour in Europe. My next one is
in Africa then I take a rest, go back home for my sister’s wedding. I
will resume my tour in September starting at Miami and head to the
United Kingdom. I am working on a couple of international collaborations
and I am releasing my next single, Skelewu, in August, a new dance I am
bringing to the world.
P: What can we expect from your first performance in Kenya?
D: A lot; an electrifying performance. It is my first time in Kenya and I can’t wait.
